A dozen GALAvanters (volunteers) gathered at the Ossipee Valley Fair Grounds in South Hiram, Maine for the recent Ossipee Valley Music Festival. However, they did not just come for the bluegrass music, G.A.L.A.’s role was to organize and facilitate the recycling and trash program at the festival. The crew spent their time dispersing trash barrels and recycling bin tops, educating the public about the recycling program. Overall, the GALAvanters diverted a whopping 8,565 cans & bottles from the landfill!! Thank goodness G.A.L.A.’s veggie oil powered dump truck helped do some of the heavy lifting!
In addition to recycling and trash collection, GALA’s smoothie booth was present with its pedal powered blender. Some lucky recyclers received raffle tickets, good for a free smoothie, if they were caught in the act of recycling.
Thank you to all of the GALAvanters that came out to help! We could not have done it without you!
