The Wolfeboro-Area Farmers’ Market is not only a great place to sample and shop for fresh veggies, local dairy and meats, baked goods, and other wholesome goodies, but it is also a place to learn! This week some learn about how to use firewood to effectively heat your home and manage forest in a sustainable manner. Wendy Scribner is the Carroll County Forester with UNH Cooperative Extension. She will be on hand at the Wolfeboro Farmer’s Market this Thursday, September 18th to talk about using firewood to reduce your fuel costs. Did you know that a cord of dry firewood is equivalent to about 150 gallons of heating oil in terms of the heat produced? Learn about which tree species generate the most heat, as well as proper drying and storage techniques. If you own a few acres of forestland, come and learn about choosing which trees to cut from your property for firewood.
