Wilderness Camping Techniques

Aug 02, 2017

8/2/2017 from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM ET

Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) is excited to announce the next workshop in a new Youth Track of their popular Re-skill-ience Workshop Series.  The youth track will be geared toward engaging thirteen through eighteen year-olds in the same homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills that have defined G.A.L.A.’s ongoing workshops.  These hands-on classes are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience, this time with a focus on youth! The second workshop in the series is titled Wilderness Camping Techniques, and will be led by Dylan Harry, science teacher and climbing instructor, and supported by Tom Belluscio, certified Maine Wilderness Guide.

Teens, ages 13-18, are invited to an introduction to camping skills. Participants are asked to bring their own food, water, clothing, closed toe shoes and day pack. You can expect to leave with experience in finding and setting up a backcountry campsite, with a specific focus on risk management, knots, tarp set-up, bear hang techniques, Leave No Trace ethics and group dynamics. This class takes place on Wednesday, August 2nd from 9am - 12pm at 774 Pleasant Valley Rd, Wolfeboro, NH. The house is located where the road turns to dirt and will meet there.

The forests of New Hampshire hold many opportunities for exploration and adventure. This workshop will empower participants to craft their own outdoor experiences in a safe and low impact style.

This workshop will be facilitated by Dylan Harry and Tom Belluscio. Dylan has worked for experiential programs in Colorado, Vermont and Maine. He currently teaches science at Fryeburg Academy and works for Eastern Mountain Sports Climbing School as a climbing instructor. Tom is a certified Maine Wilderness Guide.

This workshop is being offered for free thanks to the generous support from an anonymous donor advised fund of the NH Charitable Foundation. This class takes place on Wednesday, August 2nd from 9am - 12pm at 774 Pleasant Valley Rd, Wolfeboro, NH. Space is limited to 15 participants.
