Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) is excited to announce the next workshop in a new Youth Track of their popular Re-skill-ience Workshop Series. The youth track will be geared toward engaging thirteen through eighteen year-olds in the same homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills that have defined G.A.L.A.’s ongoing workshops. These hands-on classes are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience, this time with a focus on youth! The next workshop in the series is titled Traditional Wilderness Skills, and will be led by Tom Belluscio, certified Maine Wilderness Guide and Certified First Responder.
Teens, ages 13-18, are invited to an introduction to learning how to live off the land. We will begin the class by learning what to do if you get lost in the woods, how to identify important plants, and the first steps to building a shelter, and we will cap things off with a challenge. See if you are able to light a fire with only one match left and learn the techniques so that you can! Come on out for fun filled fall day in the wild! Participants should come prepared with a water bottle, weather appropriate attire (an extra layer and rain jacket just in case), and a snack.
This class takes place on Saturday, October 7th from 1-4 pm at 774 Pleasant Valley Rd, Wolfeboro, NH. The house is located where the road turns to dirt. There you will keep driving straight down the path to a grassy lot where you will see us waiting!
This workshop is being offered for free thanks to the generous support from an anonymous donor advised fund of the NH Charitable Foundation. Space is limited to 15 participants. Pre-register at www.galacommunity.org or by calling 603-539-6460.
