Local organization Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) is excited to announce the next feature in their 2017 NH Re-skill-ience Workshop Series, hands-on workshops focusing on homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills. Workshops are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience. The next workshop, Wildcrafting Food & Medicine in fall - making a medicinal witch hazel infusion, takes place on Saturday, November 11th from 10am - 12pm at the Tamworth Townhouse located at 27 Cleveland Hill Rd.
Carol is an incredibly skilled and practiced herbalist. She instructed four workshops for us during 2017 and this is her last one! You do not want to miss it! Join us to make traditional real witch hazel from fresh harvested twig bark to add to your medicine chest. Witch hazel is a wonderful medicinal understory tree/shrub. It’s astringent action is known to revitalize congested veins and prolapsed lower organs, reduce aching and night cramping of legs, clear nasal congestion, and aid skin repair whether from cuts, bruises, burns or ulcers. It is commonly used to clean wounds, dry up a wet rash, or splash on after bathing or shaving to tone skin.
You may have never used the real thing as most bottles found in pharmacies contain water and rubbing alcohol with the synthetic scent of witch hazel. One company makes a product with distilled witch hazel which is extracted scented oil added to rubbing alcohol and only one marketed brand is still real traditional witch hazel extract. Therefore, you will be able to really notice this wild medicine working! Please bring a potato peeler and/or sharp whittling knife. Also, dress for the weather rain or shine.
This workshop takes place from 10am - 12pm at the Tamworth Townhouse at 27 Cleveland Hill Rd. The cost to participate in the workshop is $20. Pre-registration is specifically requested for this event to be sure enough supplies will be provided. Please register at www.galacommunity.org, or by calling 603-539-6460.
