Incorporating Farm Animals into a Permaculture Home Site

5/31/2018 from 5:30 PM to 7:30 PM ET

Local organization Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) is excited to announce the next feature in their 2018 NH Re-skill-ience Workshop Series, hands-on workshops focusing on homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills. Workshops are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience.  Our next workshop is Incorporating Farm Animals into a Permaculture Home Site--A Special Look at Bunnies, with Kelly Goodson. This workshop takes place on Thursday, May 31st from 5:30-7:30 pm in the barn behind The Other Store at 85 Main St. in Tamworth, NH.

Kelly Goodson has a full-time gardening business she has maintained for 21 years. Living on her property in Tamworth, NH, she is a third generation farmer and incorporates livestock into her land and landscaping. Currently, she is participating in an intensive course on Biodynamics and continues to build on her expertise. Kelly has previously done an herbal workshop for G.A.L.A and we are excited to have her back!

We are thrilled to be offering this course on utilizing the permaculture perspective for incorporating livestock into your land. Permaculture follows the idea of creating a closed system to sustainably benefit both the landowner and the Earth. Have you ever wished you could have farm animals and/or wondered if they could do some of the work for you? Kelly will talk about using livestock for creating firewood, removing weeds and stumps, mowing lawns, establishing garden beds, and replenishing your top soil. This workshop will help participants to better understand creating a sustainable landscape, the infrastructure involved in maintaining farm animals, and the multiple benefits each specific animal can provide. This workshop will spend extra time focusing on the impact and support bunnies will provide your homestead (secrets out, there will also be some bunnies for sale). Participants will also glean an understanding on how to construct a bunny habitat so please bring a pair of work gloves.

This workshop takes place on Thursday, May 31st from 5:30-7:30 pm in the barn behind The Other Store at 85 Main St. in Tamworth. The cost to participate in the workshop is $15. This workshop is supported by The Tamworth Foundation. Pre-registration is specifically requested for this event to be sure enough supplies will be provided. Please register at www.galacommunity.org, or by calling 603-539-6460.
