GALA the New Hampshire Representative in Tom’s of Maine’s $50,000 “50 States of Good” Campaign

Global Awareness Local Action is in the running to win $50,000, and you can help us to win it! GALA is a semifinalist, the sole New Hampshire representative, in the Tom’s of Maine campaign “50 States for Good”, a grant campaign for small United States’ non-profits. GALA has a chance to win up to $50,000 toward our Sustain-A-Raisers program. Votes can be submitted daily for the next month at www.facebook.com/TomsofMaine.

The Tom’s of Maine “50 States for Good” program seeks to lift up local nonprofit groups that address urgent community needs and engage volunteers to get the work done. GALA’s Sustain-A-Raiser program, small “eco yard makeovers”, provided rain barrels, raised bed gardens, cold frames, compost bins, and clothes lines. G.A.L.A. works with youth volunteers to offer these services while also providing a platform for participants to develop entrepreneurial and “marketable” green collar job skills. This program has three base line outcomes: one, to decreasing the communities ecological footprint using at home eco-assets; two, the bringing together of social capital; and three, educating the community in useful skills. If a recipient of the grant, GALA will specifically use the funding for increasing the capacity of the Sustain-A-Raisers program by implementing 50 eco yard makeovers and creating an open source how-to guide for other organizations to utilize across the nation.

Non-profits from each state were selected for the fourth annual campaign by an independent panel of judges. The public vote will determine six winning organizations to share $150,000 in funding. The organization with the most public support will receive $50,000 in sponsorship funding, while five additional organizations will each receive $20,000.
