Knife Sharpening & Tool Care
With Geoffrey Burke
Sat., November 3rd, 9-11am
At the Tamworth Town House
We are excited to announce the next feature in the 2018 NH Re-skill-ience Workshop Series, hands-on workshops focusing on homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills. Workshops are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience. Our next workshop is Knife Sharpening and Tool Care with Geoffrey Burke. This workshop takes place on Saturday, November 3rd from 9 – 11 am at the Tamworth Town House at 27 Cleveland Hill Rd. This workshop is generously funded by the Tamworth Foundation and comprises a series of five Tamworth workshops. We are very excited for this next feature!
Tamworth resident Geoffrey Burke has been professionally building all-wood traditional small craft for over 35 years. He has taught boatbuilding for many years and in many locations including the WoodenBoat school in Brooklin, ME, Lake Champlain Maritime Museum in Vergennes, VT, and our own Community School in Tamworth, NH. Geoff has his own shop and has cared for and maintained all of his tools over the years.
Are you knives “duller than an old boot”? Is using your scissors like cutting wood with a butter knife? We can fix that! In this workshop Geoff will cover the theory and practice of sharpening all sorts of edged household tools and cutlery. We will look at what you need in the way of sharpening stones, hones, and grinders without breaking the bank. We will practice the techniques needed to get your implements truly sharp.
All the sharpening tools and stones will be provided; just bring whatever you have that needs to be sharpened and some safety glasses/eye protection. This includes knives, scissors, lawn mowers, chisels, planes, screwdrivers (yes, they need to be sharp), axes, shovels, scythes, and any other type of hand or power tool that has a sharpenable blade or edge.
This workshop takes place on Saturday, November 3rd from 9 – 11 am at the Tamworth Town House at 27 Cleveland Hill Rd. The cost to participate in the workshop is $15 to hold your place. Pre-registration is specifically requested for this event to be sure enough supplies will be provided. Please register HERE or by calling 603-539-6460.
