Saturday, May 26th, 7-10pm
At the Wolfeboro Town Hall
With the White Mountain Ceili Band
And caller Alice Morris
G.A.L.A. hosts their next Community Contra Dance on Saturday, May 26th at the Great Hall in Wolfeboro’s Town Hall from 7-10pm. No partners needed, family friendly, and dancing is easily learned by all ages in the first couple dances of the evening. This month’s instruction and the evening’s calls will be from long-time contra caller Alice Morris, who, although she began long before in the Midwest, has called dances around New England for 15 years.
Dexter first came to Irish music when he played for contra dances around the valley, and the session at May Kelly’s deepened his focus on the Irish tradition. Fiona grew up playing flute through Mountain Top Music Center, and went on to study music at Loyola University. While in New Orleans she began playing at Irish sessions, and now plays and sings with a few groups around New England. Siena grew up playing classical violin and viola and switched to fiddle in college when she discovered the Boston Scottish and Cape Breton music scene. Mike has played a wide range of musical styles, from classical to rock, and more recently bebop. He and Siena have both enjoyed branching out into Irish music with the White Mountain Ceilí Band.
The Contra Dance admission is $8.00-adults; $5.00- 6-18; 5-and under free. Large families or those under financial hardship are encouraged to pay only as able since all are welcome! Bring an extra pair of non-black-soled shoes, or brush them at the door to protect the wooden floors. See G.A.L.A. at www.galacommunity.org, for volunteering or more information or contact email@example.com, 603-539-6460.
The dance takes place on Saturday, May 26th at the Wolfeboro Town Hall’s “Great Hall” from 7:00 to 10:00pm, with the first half hour dedicated to a brief overview of the basic steps of New England contra dance. Dances are a fun and energizing night out for all ages and abilities, even if you simply prefer to cheer the dancers on from the sidelines and enjoy the live musical performance.
