Please come to Carol Felice’s first session with G.A.L.A.!
Wildcrafting Food & Medicine in Winter
Local organizations Global Awareness Local Action (G.A.L.A.) and Jack Mountain Bushcraft School are excited to announce the next feature in their 2017 NH Re-skill-ience Workshop Series, hands-on workshops focusing on homesteading, sustainable living, and traditional bushcraft skills. Workshops are designed to help participants develop skills and knowledge that strengthen personal and community resilience. The next workshop, Wildcrafting Food & Medicine Series with Carol Felice, takes place on Saturday, March 4th from 1-3pm at the Ossipee Main Street Building at 15 Moultonville Rd, Center Ossipee, NH. PLEASE NOTE our snow date is Sunday, March 5th at the same time and location.
Herbalist Carol Felice will be hosting four workshops during 2017; one in each season in which you will learn the different plants you can forage for food and medicine. This series can certainly keep you busy but please know that you do not need to sign up for all four workshops to participate in the one coming up on March 4th!
Assuming the weather is manageable, we will be spending the first part of the workshop outdoors doing plant identification and learning the diagnostic characteristics of plants when they are adorning their winter outfits. We will focus on learning the plants you can use for food and medicine in your own woods. If the weather appears challenging, Carol will be teaching that same information indoors. The second half of the workshop will be hands-on as Carol teaches us how to mix and make slippery elm lozenges. Historically, slippery elm was used to soothe the throat, moisturize the voice, and settle the stomach. You will leave the workshop with your very own collection of lozenges to use when you need them so you can finish out this winter strong!
Please come to the workshop dressed for the weather and with some bright/visible clothing! Note that our snow date is set for the following Sunday (the 5th) at the same time. You will be contacted if the workshop is postponed until the Sunday prior.
This workshop takes place from 1-3pm, at the Ossipee Main Street Building. The cost to participate in the workshop is $20.00. Pre-registration is specifically requested for this event to be sure enough supplies will be provided. Please register HERE or by calling 603-539-6460.
